i had fun trying to figure out what sort of handwriting Scout would have; it should be something that isn't my own (which is hard, trying to write like somebody else) so that it says something about who Scout is while still taking into account that she's still getting used to her new chunky 3-digit hands and Popeye arms. i did the handwriting rough but bold with a slight curvy flair yet sloppy, which i think fits who Scout is well.

i originally had this scene more drawn out and dramatic, but i like it better short and sweet. that's how i like to say goodbye to people, letting it linger is the worst, and if you can get out without an actual face-to-face goodbye, do it. and i think the shorter sequence works better because Scout would have no hesitation in doing this, she's convinced saying goodbye and leaving her mom is what she has to do.
