i love Scout politely asking to use the bathroom, haha.

bathrooms and going to the bathroom, particularly peeing, always show up in my comics. other than short stories and fill-ins i've done, i think every comic i've written so far has peeing or pooping mentioned at least once, or a character is shown doing their business, or a character(s) at the very least enter a bathroom.

i always feel weird about bathrooms, not so much my own but other people's or public bathrooms, to the point where i try to avoid using them if i can. i guess bathroom-related stuff popping up in my comics a lot is part of my anxiety about them, but there's something really interesting to me about them and how people behave in them. i use them in my comics a lot as a way of disarming the characters and as a place of personal reflection (both figuratively and literally since most bathrooms have a mirror), where a character has sort of dropped any pretenses because nobody else is watching.

but the biggest thing about bathrooms for me is that there's something transformative about them, too. they seem like places where people notice things about themselves, like a new lump or blemish, something mysterious or wrong or scary on or in their body, or something good like if you've been working out and you notice your new muscles or something. you go in and you come out different. i like to use this idea in my comics to a more metaphorical degree where a character will be changed somehow, or something in their life will be changed, after emerging from a bathroom. i knew when i created Shadoweyes that there was no question that her first metamorphosis would be in the bathroom.
